What You Can Do With Hosting

For those who might not be familiar with the term, Hosting can be characterized as a service that enables organizations to store files in a data center facility through the use of internet and thus makes it available to the general public. Essentially a website could not exist without hosting and a hosting service will provide the space you need to store your files through the internet in a data center environment. Hosting has many more uses than that though, so here we will look at just some of the benefits you can get from hosting service.

Despite its myriad uses, the main purpose most people use internet hosting for is nevertheless for hosting a website. The files are stored in a data center with fast connections to the internet and enables worldwide access to the hosted files or website by navigating the URL. Normally when a surfer navigates the URL, the server directs the user to a file named 'index.htm' which contains the coding for the 'home page' of that site (this being the main page they navigate elsewhere from). This site will then include the links to all of the other pages and files that the site allows users to view.

However it is also possible to navigate to individual files without them being linked to on the index page. The user can also access the subfolders and other files associated with the site directly if the user is aware of the direct address/ URL or link to that page without going through the links through the index page. This service has so many advantages and benefits for the user utilizing the hosting service. User could use the space as file storage for storing the files or back up files offsite. This enables the user to have a permanent home to house, host or access their data from any computer with access to the internet. This in theory gives any device you own almost infinite storage (particularly if you have cloud hosting or a dedicated server). At the same time it means you data is kept somewhere safe that can't be compromised or lost yet is perfectly secure.

The fact that anyone can access the files from anywhere also makes hosting great for collaborative projects. For example, if you are working on a project then you can share your access passwords to anyone in your trusted group to enable collaboration so that they can contribute at any time from any place. This file can then be downloaded at any point and could be made available to the general public or not depending on its purpose.

Finally hosting also gives you a great place to store emails. Normally when you pay for the service and buy a domain name you will be given the opportunity to also buy an e-mail address and the files will then be stored on the server meaning you have no limit to how much email you can keep for your own records and meaning that you get your very own personalised e-mail address. Getting a dedicated server means that you get just one server for yourself and aren't sharing bandwidth or storage space with other users meaning you can do all this and more and still have space and speed left over.
