- 1). Educate teachers regarding any advanced technology. Before introducing technology in the classroom, teachers first need to get the training and practice. Otherwise, it is hard to convince or explain to students the advantages of using technology for school work. Have teachers attend an educational technology workshop or seminars for the latest applications in the classroom. Often, new gadgets are demonstrated in these workshops. View online videos and read articles about technology integration in the classrooms. Request classroom technology sales representatives, such as Smart Board or Texas Instrument, come to the school for informational workshop if needed. Practice using new equipment or computer software before each class.
- 2). Demonstrate technology use during lectures. Give students visual experience in learning how to use technology. Emphasize the ease of and the advantages of using each technology. For example, graphing complicated functions with a graphing calculator can save students time and students can see the results immediately. Compare the difference between the results of the traditional method and the technology method. If you are demonstrating anything on the computer, project the screen big enough for all students to see. Provide handouts of instructions so that students can practice outside of class.
- 3). Engage students with hands-on exercise in class. If possible, allow students to have opportunities in class to practice each technology use. Install the software in every computer in the computer lab. Reserve computer labs before class. Create assignments that require the use of new technology. Give students ample of time to experiment any new software and guide them throughout the process. You may also put students in groups for technology discovery lessons. Like arts, students can learn more technology by doing than by listening.
