How to Crochet a Headband With Ears
- 1). Knot the loose end of your headband yarn into a slip knot. Slide the slip knot over the crochet hook and tighten the yarn.
- 2). Loop the loose end of the yarn over your crochet hook and pull it through the pre-existing loop to create a chain stitch. Make 10 more chain stitches.
- 3). Turn over your crochet chain so you can crochet back the way you came across the top of the row. Skip one stitch then push your needle through the top loops of the next stitch. Loop the yarn over the needle and pull it through the loops of the stitch, but not through the loop on your needle. Loop the yarn over again and pull it through the two loops on your needle to create a half double crochet. Continue across the row with half double crochet stitches.
- 4). Chain two stitches when you finish half double crocheting in each stitch in the first row. Turn your crocheting over. Skip the first half double crochet stitch and begin a new half double crochet stitch, inserting your needle through the next stitch. Continue across the row with half double crochet stitches. Finish with two chain stitches and turn.
- 5). Continue with this pattern until the headband is long enough to wrap around your head. Hold the crocheting up to your head periodically as you work to check on the length. Stop when you can just make the ends meet. The stitches will stretch when you wear the headband. If it is too loose, it won't stay even and your ears will droop.
- 6). Hold the two ends of your headband together so they match stitch for stitch. Chain one chain stitch after your last full row of half double crochets. Insert your needle through the stitch on the opposite end of the headband. Pull the yarn over and pull the resulting loop through both the stitch on the opposite edge and the loop on your crochet hook. Repeat until you reach the end of the row.
- 7). Widen the loop on your crochet hook. Pull the ball of yarn through the loop. Pull the knot tightly and cut off the excess yarn.
- 1). Make a slip knot in the loose end of your yarn. Hook it onto your crochet hook and pull it tight.
- 2). Chain two loose stitches. Turn your crocheting. In the first stitch you made -- but the second stitch from where you are now -- make six single crochets. Push your needle through the stitch. Pull the yarn over your hook and through the stitch but not the loop on your crochet hook. Pull the yarn over again and pull it through the loop on your hook. You should now have a flat circle of stitches.
- 3). Make one chain stitch to begin a new row. Rows for the ears will be circular, not straight across. Crochet three rows with two single crochets in each stitch of the previous row.
- 4). Crochet two rows with one single crochet into each stitch in the prior row. At the end of the second row, make the last three stitches slip stitches. Begin a final row with three slip stitches and continue with single crochets until you reach the last three stitches, which will again be slip stitches.
- 5). Line the ear up on your headband with the slip stitched area as the base. Attach the ear to the headband with six single crochets. Pull the loop on your crochet hook open wide, slip the yarn through and tie it off. Repeat for the second ear, which should be attached four inches from the first ear on your headband.
