Fantastic StringTown

103 30
I like to skydive using my imagination.
Over the past five years the freefall has often landed me in StringTown, one of my favorite mental constructs.
The last journey was so vivid that I drew a map of downtown, with names for the streets and alleyways.
Now the place feels so real I think it exists on a GPS signal! What got me into this labyrinth of joy was my study of the guitar.
I did have a website dedicated to this instrument and sadly, I did not tend my cyberspace garden and I let it go.
From this experiment, however, came months of research and actual guitar playing that never would have happened if I had not tried the website path.
But I did play guitar too much and wrote too little.
I got interested in guitar genres, like flamenco, classical, rock, blues and country.
The guitar offers such a versatile menu of sound, such infinite possibilities for the human ear to enjoy.
But now, let us get back to the adventure.
Flying over StringTown, I get an overview of the musical buffet that awaits me.
I descend over the northeast corner of the village and hover above Country Crossroad.
I can faintly hear rhythm acoustic guitar interposed with five string banjo.
Hints of mandolin are audibly present as well as a thumping string bass.
Should I touch down now or continue my scan of the entire feast, I ask myself.
Check out the big picture, I answer myself.
I keep moving south and find I am at PopSong Circle.
I am almost lured into landing here, due to the lush, seductive sound of the Carpenters harmonizing at the mindblowing ending of the song "Close to You".
That Major 7th chord just kills me.
Sometimes vocals do overpower strings.
Turning right and moving west I get onto Classical Boulevard, with some beautiful baroque offerings by both Julian Bream and Liona Boyd, as they play a sumptuous duet.
The gut strings are sounding so mellow I could hover here for hours! Off to the side I swear I can hear B.
B.
King playing his beloved guitar 'Lucille'.
Yes, we are on Blues Block with the slow, sad sound of heartbreak music.
On the Blues stage it seems like the real Elvis is just launching into "Heartbreak Hotel".
On a side note this seems just like the concert my wife and I enjoyed in Honolulu in January,1973.
That was such a lucky accident, that concert.
It was a serendipity.
I feel a bit overwhelmed right now, but will continue this tour soon!
