How to Resize a Partition in Windows Vista

    • 1). Click "Start," and then click "Control Panel."

    • 2). Click on the option labeled "System and Maintenance," and then click on the option labeled "Administrative Tools."

    • 3). Double-click the icon labeled "Computer Management" to open up the Computer Management Console.

    • 4). Click on the option labeled "Disk Management" which is located on the left-side navigation pane of the Computer Management Console.

    • 5). Right-click on the letter of the partition that you want to resize. On the drop-down menu, click "Extend Volume" if you want to increase the size of the partition or click "Shrink Volume" if you want to decrease the size of the partition. This will open up the "Shrink" or "Extend" dialog box.

    • 6). Enter the amount of disk space that you want to shrink or extend the partition by into the "Enter the amount" field. The "Size Available" field will show by how much megabytes you can extend or shrink the partition. If there is not enough unallocated space for you to extend the partition, you will have to free up some space by shrinking another partition.

    • 7). Click on the button labeled "Shrink" or "Extend" to resize the partition.
