Who Can Wear Skinny Jeans?
- Skinny jeans aren't called "skinny jeans" because they're only for people who have the elusive skinny frame. They're actually called skinny jeans because they hug the ankle instead of flaring out the way a boot-cut jean might do. Take note of your body type before you dive in. Don't purchase jeans that are so tight you have trouble breathing in them. Instead, look for a pair of jeans you'll feel confident and comfortable wearing.
- For most body types, skinny jeans are best purchased in darker hues (those who are genetically gifted and fit into the "skinny" category can probably purchase jeans in almost any color, however). These darker colors add a surprisingly slimming effect that will good on women of any weight. Darker colors also add an element of "dressing up" that make your look come together a little bit better.
- You may be under the misconception that only women who dare wear 5-inch stiletto heels can even venture into the skinny jeans category. While high heels will no doubt make your legs look longer in the jeans, there are still other shoes you can wear with your jeans and still have a streamlined and flattering look. Try pairing your skinny jeans with a nice pair of flats or boots that come up to the knee (zip them up over your jeans). Either choice will add a polished look to your outfit.
- If you're above a size 4, you might want to consider longer shirts that cover your bottom. Long tunics are a popular choice; you can also try longer, more fitted T-shirts, paired with a blazer for dressier occasions.
- Men are getting in on the skinny-jean action as well. Several brands have come into the scene with these types of jeans for men including 7 for All Mankind, The Gap and William Rast (Justin Timberlake's line of clothing). Skinny jeans on men have been associated with the hipster movement, and are usually seen paired with a white or plaid shirt and converse or slip on sneakers. Skinny jeans for men, like for women, are available for any body type.
