    • 1). Find the check number, routing number, account number, the amount of the check and whom you wrote the check to. You should have this in your check log, which keeps all the copies of your checks. If your bank has a website with online banking, you also can search your online statement for this information.

    • 2). Find your bank's phone number. Make sure you find the number of the same bank that you wrote the check on. This is the bank you have the checking account with.

    • 3). Call your bank and ask it to stop the check. A bank employee will ask you for information to determine what check you are stopping. You should also inquire on the fee for stopping the check to make sure you have enough money in your account to pay for the stopped check.
