Foods to Avoid During a Painful Gout Attack
During an attack these things should be completely eliminated from the diet as they are very high in the protein content. Similarly lentils and peas should not be eaten also. Vegetables like cabbage, asparagus, mushrooms, spinach etc and shell-fish like oyster, clams, crab, shrimp etc. must be avoided. The patient must also stop taking alcohol as almost all alcoholic drinks are fermented and the yeast used to ferment them is very high in purine content. Therefore, alcohol and especially bear should never be consumed during a painful gout attack.
During a gout attack, the patient should also stay away from the food products which are high in "Fructose". Fructose is a type of sugar which is added in almost all the packaged and processed foods. All types of jams, jellies, ice creams, syrups etc. are high in fructose. Therefore, the patient must see the label of everything he buys at the grocery store to find out which other food products have fructose and eliminate it from your diet. All the carbonated soft-drinks must be avoided as they have the highest level of fructose in them. These drinks are basically just flavor, water and fructose and have no nutritional value. The patient must also keep his body hydrated throughout the day as dehydration increases the pain. So, drink enough water and other natural drinks but avoid the carbonated soft drinks. By avoiding these food products, you may be able to handle the gout attack a lot better.
