Keeping Kids Entertained While You Work

If you work from home full-time or even just occasionally, you might find it difficult to get your work done with small children in the house.
One of the best ways of handling this dilemma is to give them some paperwork of their own.
They can even work on their "work" in your office right along with you, which will make both of you happy.
If you have enough room, the best plan is often to give your child a small desk or table in your office as their official work space.
Coloring books and crayons are a perennial favorite with small children.
Always keep a few coloring books on hand at all times, along with a pad of drawing paper.
Crayons are often easier for children to work with if you keep them in a plastic container instead of the original cardboard box.
You might want to add a few markers and colored pencils to the container as well.
Books that have educational activities, connect-the-dot games, word games and other fun things to do are also good choices.
Find ones that have a theme that your child will enjoy and that are appropriate for his or her age group.
Then, you can give your child a "work assignment" of one or more pages that they can work on while you also work.
A few puzzles are also great to keep on hand.
If you have enough room in your office, a large floor puzzle can be a lot of fun.
Be sure to choose puzzles that are age appropriate, or you might find yourself being asked to help put the puzzle together, if it is too hard.
On the other hand, you don't want one so easy that it can be put together too quickly.
One of the best options for keeping your kid busy is letting them play on a separate computer, specifically a laptop.
If they have access to games or especially the Internet, they can spend hours doing whatever they want.
Set up an appropriate game for them or point them to a certain website that will be keep them occupied.
Giving your child a writing assignment while you are working is also a great way to keep them busy.
It will make them feel like they are working right along with you.
Let them be a "star reporter" and give them a publishing deadline for even more fun.
