Getting a good night's sleep is something many people aren't doing, and losing out on precious sleep could be more damaging than you imagine. Studies have shown that those who aren't getting an adequate amount of sleep make poor decisions during the day, aren't as happy, and their organs, including the immune system, are at risk. If these things concern you it is time to get a good night's rest once and for all. The recommended amount of sleep is 8 to 10 hours for adults, and using these tips will ensure you are getting your ZZZ's and staying as healthy as possible.

It is amazing what a mattress can do for the quality, and amount, of sleep that you get. If you find yourself tossing and turning all through the night and have an older mattress, it is time to make the purchase. Choose a long-lasting, quality mattress to ensure that you are getting the best possible sleep. With as much as one-third of a person's life being spent in bed, it is important that it is time well spent, and with a good mattress, this goal can be accomplished.

Lying in bed with the TV on is a common habit, but one that must be broken as quickly as possible. When it is time to go to bed, ensure that going to bed is what you do. The body can become confused if you are up watching TV or reading a book - not what you want to happen, as it can make it difficult to go to sleep.

You know that the TV and books must go, but you can find yourself sleeping more soundly when you relax and prepare yourself to sleep. This should start about half an hour before you plan to call it a night and can include things such as taking a nice warm bubble bath.

Restless nights could be caused by what you drink so avoiding caffeine before bedtime (and several hours prior) could be just what the doctor ordered. And, you will simply feel better if you can reduce the amount of caffeine you intake every day.

Getting a good night's rest need not be difficult when you do the things that you can to get a good night sleep, and starting with the above can make for a major sleep improvement. Isn't it time you started getting the sleep that you need?
