Have You Lost Your Marbles?

This is a question that most of you have asked yourself.
In fact I bet there was a time when you lost your keys and you thought, am I losing my marbles? But I want to ease your mind about this because almost everyone has experienced some form of memory lapse from time to time.
This can be just a normal side effect of your stress, your distraction or merely your multitasking.
Now as you get older, and yes we all get older, serious mental lapses may be a sign of dementia.
But guys, when you experience some plain old forgetfulness it is not usually something you should really fret about.
The fact is, your memory usually serves you well enough even when your joints and other parts start to go.
Having said that, your brain cells will shrink over the years and eventually your brain will make fewer chemicals (which are called neurotransmitters) that carry your messages from one nerve cell to the next.
And let us not forget those attacks in your body by your free radicals (if you do not know what free radicals are, read my articles on antioxidants) that will also take their toll on your brain cells over time.
In fact, these free radicals roam around in your whole body.
Would you like to remember why you just walked into a room? Want to be sure you are doing what you can to retain a healthy memory? Well you can begin by walking into your kitchen.
What do you think you will find there? It is there that you will find what I refer to as your brain foods.
These brain foods are rich in protective nutrients, such as antioxidants, and you need these antioxidants as they neutralize your free radicals.
They actually clean out your body.
You will also find your B vitamins that may help ensure that you are getting sufficient quantities of neurotransmitters and inflammation dousing oils and even your spices; this is important information.
But sorry to say that if after adding more of these foods to your daily diet, you still may not remember the name of your dentist or where you parked your car - well maybe - just maybe you have gone too long without a cleaning.
And as always, you must eat well to be well.
