    • 1). Measure the length and width of your concrete slab and write down the measurements.

    • 2). Take your measurements to a landscaping supply or home improvement store and purchase your materials. Pick out the style, size and color of your pavers and ask the sales person to help you determine how much material you will need.

    • 3). Construct a border around the edge of the concrete base by sawing down four two-by-fours to fit the area of the base. Attach the two-by-fours to each other with a hammer and nails, forming a square that will act as a temporary border to hold your mortar and pavers in place. Grease the inner part of each of the two-by-fours with vegetable oil so they're easier to remove once the job is complete.

    • 4). Mix up the mortar according to the instructions on the package and spread a 1-inch thick layer of mortar on top of the concrete, enough for no more than four pavers at a time. Be sure to start in one the the corners. Spread the mortar evenly by using the trowel. Leave approximately 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch of space between each of the pavers.

    • 5). Set the patio pavers one at a time on top of the mortar. Repeat these steps until all pavers have been set. Allow the mortar to set for a day before proceeding.

    • 6). Mix the grout according to the package instructions and use a grout sponge to fill in the spaces between the pavers.

    • 7). Once all the spaces between the pavers have been filled, use a separate sponge to clean off the top surface of the pavers. Allow the grout to dry for 24 hours before walking on it.
