Why You Should Consider Opting Out of Online Databases

First it can become a complete invasion of privacy and these databases are popping up all the time. I have been married now for a few years and I now realize that I should have been just a little more careful with my willingness to put my information on the World Wide Web. My wife out of curiosity started doing random searches and wasn't pleased with some results. Well my past relationships where starting to naturally intertwine as possible relatives due to how frequent they were mentioned with me. I began to see the bigger problem when I notice my current addresses being so available to everyone. I thought to myself if I had an ex stalker type this could be very dangerous. On some of these websites are willing to give your telephone number, address, employer and in extreme cases marital status, criminal, possible relative or last known address. These are all recipes for identity theft and much more. So I urge you to start the process of cleaning your online profiles up.

The first thing I recommend you doing is close any social network account you're no longer using. These sites use your likeness to push their products and beliefs on people you use to deal with. They also sell your information to the highest bidder. Don't forget they are in the money making business. Advertisement companies pay handsome amounts to these sites for people and the demographics. Facebook was one of my recently favorite social networks until I notice what they have been doing with their language in regards to the privacy standards. If you must use sites like these to stay in contact with your friends and family, it's important to use the strict amount of privacy standards. For example only share your date of birth and post to your friends. Everything else don't even use or fill out like employer information, location etc. If your friends and family want to know that information let them ask you offline.

Now here are a few helpful tips in your journey to cleaning your online presence. You need to visit all of the sites below and use the option to opt out of their database. I advise you to perform the search and find yourself on their site. Then copy the link on to a note pad or word document because they will expect you to do the leg work. Their form will ask you to reference the profile to be deleted. They may even require identify verification before completely removing you. They make the process painful on purpose, but if you follow the procedure within ten business days you will be removed.
