Native American Engineering Scholarships
- The A.T. Anderson Memorial Scholarship is available to both undergraduate and graduate students who are at least one-quarter Native American, Native Alaskan or Native Hawaiian and belong to a federally recognized tribe. As of 2011, the award amount for undergraduates is $1,000 and the award for graduate students is $2,000. To be eligible, an applicant must be attending school on a full-time basis, must be an American Indian Science and Engineering Society member, and must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a scale of 4.0. The annual deadline for application is June 15. This scholarship is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico but is available to students throughout the United States.
- As of 2011, the American Indian Science and Engineering Society Intel Scholarship based in New Mexico is available nationally to undergraduate students in the amount of $5,000 and to graduate students in the amount of $10,000. To be eligible, a student must be at least one-quarter Native American or Native Alaskan, must have a cumulative grade point average of no less than 3.0, must be an American Indian Science and Engineering Society member, and must be majoring in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, material science, or chemical engineering. The annual deadline for application is June 15.
- The American Indian Science and Engineering Society Google Scholarship, also based in Albuquerque, is available to Native Americans, Alaskans or Hawaiians nationwide who are majoring in either computer science or computer engineering. As of 2011, this award is valued at $10,000. To be eligible, a student must be a member of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society, must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a scale of 4.0, and must be a college sophomore at the time of application. The annual deadline to apply falls on February 15.
- Female Native American engineering students should make sure to apply for scholarships available from the Society of Women Engineers, many of which are awarded to applicants of underrepresented groups. SWE scholarships limited to minority applicants include the $2,250 Rockwell Collins Scholarship, the $2,500 ITW Scholarship, the $1,000 IBM Corporation Scholarship, the $5,000 Honeywell International Inc. Scholarship, and the $5,000 Baker Hughes Scholarship. Award amounts listed are current as of 2011. The annual deadline to apply for Society of Women Engineers scholarships is February 15.
