The Worst Wedding Speech Mistakes

Unless you end up as Prime Minister or in some other equally high profile job, your wedding speech is most likely going to be the most important speech of your life.
No pressure then, eh? Don't worry, as we've got you covered with the absolute worst, cringe-worthy and early-divorce-baiting mistakes made in wedding speeches.
Pay attention, because you really don't want to drop any of these clangers.
Plagiarism If you're thinking about ripping off someone else's speech that you found online or from a movie or song, please think again.
Second-hand sentiment seems lazy and disingenuous, and even if nobody realises you've borrowed someone else's words, you're not going to be able to deliver them half as well as that fellow the ladies were swooning over in that movie you saw it in.
Of course if a movie or a song has a special significance for you as a couple, then it's okay to reference them in the speech, just don't go reeling off entire scenes, besides you'll bore the wedding party.
Compliments of the groom If you're the groom, you should realise that your bride-to-be has likely been planning the big day since you were still running around with sticks as rifles and pushing your mates in the mud, no not the stag party - your childhood.
Good wedding speeches must include telling the bride how beautiful she looks.
Fail to compliment her on how she looks and you're likely to get a cold shoulder on your honeymoon! Thanks, a lot! The reality of a wedding day is often that you're rushed off your feet trying to get around all the guests to greet them and thank them for coming.
Wedding speeches are the one time you get a captive audience, so you must not forget to thank everyone who helped arrange the big day.
From the in-laws to the bridesmaids, make a list if you have to, you'd be gutted and embarrassed if you forgot someone.
Family values Best man wedding speeches are a bit of a minefield.
On the one hand, a certain degree of ribbing is expected and encouraged.
On the other hand you run the risk of offending people if your speech is a little too colourful.
Remember that wedding parties can and often do include children and elderly relatives and that best man wedding speeches need to be cheeky without being too near the knuckle.
The last thing you want to do is upset granny or say something which will result in some uncomfortable questions for the parents of the children in the room.
Hush money Weddings cost an awful lot, and often it's the parents of the bride and groom fitting the bill.
If you're paying and feeling the pinch, keep it to yourself for the day.
Wedding speeches are not the place to start complaining, or bragging, about how much it cost you.
It'll take the shine off things for the happy couple or at least make them very uncomfortable.
