There are a variety of home improvements that you can make if moving around your home or accessibility is becoming a problem.
Whether you have limited mobility, a problem with balance or you are confined to a wheelchair, there are a number of things you can do to make life simpler and still live independently.
Accessibility Ramps When you are in a wheelchair, be it manual or powered, it is nice to know that you can move around a building, especially your home, with ease and comfort.
By placing ramps in certain places of your house (interior and exterior), you can improve the smoothness of moving from one place to the next.
For example, if you have a few steps from one room into the next or have raised landings in a bungalow, you may want to consider installing a threshold ramp to make the transition smoother.
Similarly, you may struggle to get your wheelchair into a vehicle or up to a raised area in your garden.
By using portable, vehicle or solid ramps, you can choose a type to suit your needs and allow yourself to move freely and independently from one space in your home to the other.
Mobility Access Lifts There are many types of lifts that have been created in order to help people with mobility issues to live more independently and without having to rely on someone to help them.
For people that use wheelchairs on a daily basis, stairs can be nearly impossible to manage.
However, vertical platform lifts are a great installation for both residential and commercial properties as they give wheelchair users the opportunity to go from floor to floor without waiting for people to help carry them up and down stairs.
Stair lifts are also a very popular addition to residential environments and are overall a great way of helping those with poor balance or weaker lower bodies travel between stories of their house with ease and independence.
Similarly, when out and about, wheelchair or mobility scooter users can also struggle to take their mobility equipment with them due to the lack of space in the vehicle or having no way of lifting it.
Thankfully, there are a number of scooter and wheelchair lifts that can be attached to cars which either allow you to carry the scooter or chair on the exterior of the car, or safely store it inside as you travel.
