How to Choose the Right Breast Implant Size for Your Body

The key to a successful breast augmentation in Indiana is having a thorough understanding of your desired results in conjunction with an open and honest relationship with your doctor. Your plastic surgeon will assist you in choosing the right size implants to fulfill your needs. The consultation – when you'll have a face-to-face conversation with your surgeon – is an optimal environment for determining the best implant size to suit your body. Your doctor will ask questions about your medical history, lifestyle and goals before making a professional recommendation.

Breast Implants

There are two primary types of breast implants I use for my Indiana patients.  Each one possesses a unique set of benefits. Understanding the difference between the two options will help you in choosing the right implant to suit your body.

Silicone implants contain an elastic gel. Most doctors and patients find that this implant type provides the most natural look and feel, but this type of implant requires a slightly larger incision when compared to saline implants because silicone gel implants are pre-filled by the manufacturer and cannot be filled after being placed inside the body.

Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water. Often, doctors will fill this implant type after it has been placed inside the breast to minimize the size of the incision and custom-tailor the implant size. If a saline implant is punctured or ruptures, the salt water will be naturally and harmlessly absorbed by the body.

Body Frame

A number of women who come in for a consultation may be unsure whether they need breast augmentation or a breast lift in Indiana. A primary question to ask is what your desired results are. Breast lifts can adjust the placement of the nipples, and remove excess skin to provide a more youthful looking breast contour. But if you want to increase the size of your breasts, you will need an augmentation.

Once you've decided on breast augmentation, one of the biggest decisions is implant size. Your surgeon will help you to find the right size to fit your goals. It's important to find a size that you feel will be satisfying both now and in the future. Breast augmentation allows women to achieve a breast size that complements their entire body frame. I often recommend a larger breast size for women who have broader shoulders and a wider chest. If you have a smaller frame, you may want to consider smaller implants. This often will provide a more natural appearance.

Choosing Your Implant

Each person has a unique body frame, and therefore requires a specialized surgery plan. Skin elasticity also affects the size of implants your surgeon will recommend during your consultation. The more elastic a person's skin, the larger the implant that person's body will be able to accommodate. The new addition will naturally fit the body, with the skin easily stretching to fit the implants.

It's important to maintain a stable weight prior to surgery. This could affect the size of implants used, and will help to achieve the goals you set with your surgeon during your consultation. Once you've determined a range of implants that would provide a natural enhancement to the contour of your body, you can choose the implant size that most accurately fits your cosmetic goals.
