The internet is basically an anonymous place to do business.
It does not matter how many bells and whistles your home page has, it can not compare to the real thing such as that personal touch from a store.
Its human nature we like to interact with our fellow humans, it is part of life.
One way to bring that personal touch to your store is to integrate it seamlessly with your offline business.
You need to encourage your online customers to use your 'physical' store, and then conversely encourage your offline customers to go on to the website.
You may think this is all well and good but how do I do it?You need to ensure both sides of the business depend on each other and tell your customers that they need the total experience what your business has to offer.
Lots of people enjoy doing business online.
Inevitably though sometimes a problem occurs, this can result in frantic email messages back and forth to resolve the issue.
This will turn the customer off from visiting your site again.
You see sometimes customers want a human to speak to, have a toll free number on your site where they can call a real human person, not some answering machine.
This is a fine line as you want customers to use email but you need to cater for the masses.
If a customer has an immediate need make sure you telephone number is clearly visible on your site.
This is common if a customer wishes to return an item we all find it easier to speak to someone.
They have purchased goods from you so have the right to personal assistance.
If you bought a shirt in GAP you would take it for granted that you could walk back into the store and have that personal assistance.
Online stores are no different in that regard; too many people miss the boat on this one.
Encourage your customers who wish to order from you or have questions about goods from your business to get their answers from your web-site.
Your site can be so much more than a place to purchase something.
It can be a place where your 'physical customers' do their research on your goods and receive post-purchase support.
Your web-site can also act as providing self-service features and can really cement your business relationship with your customers and suppliers.
