How to Give Holiday Food Gifts

    • 1). Choose between two and five different food items that you will make, depending on the length of your list. By limiting the variety of food gift choices, you will save time and money on your ingredients and preparation. Having a bit of an assortment, though, allows you to cater to your recipients' tastes and special dietary needs. Choose times that are easy to make in large quantities.

    • 2). Plan to spend a day or two shopping, preparing and packaging your gifts. Make a list of all of your ingredients and the total quantity you will need. Sort the ingredients so that you know the total amount needed of any items used in more than one recipe. This will speed up your shopping trip.

    • 3). Begin by making the recipe that takes the longest to complete. Then, when this item is rising, baking or cooling, you can begin on the next item.

    • 4). Find cute, creative containers in which you can present your food gifts. While cookie tins and plastic containers with fitted lids are fine, think outside of the cookie box. For instance, buy a bunch of inexpensive stockings (look for an online bulk retailer). Wrap the goodies in cellophane, tie them with ribbon, and stuff each stocking.

    • 5). Store each item appropriately until it is time to give your gifts. This way they will stay fresh and taste great when your lucky recipient takes a big bite!
