  A fun costume for women is a pirate costume, because there are so many different ways it can be worn. A woman's pirate costume can look both mysterious and dangerous, and it can be either feminine or masculine. The accessories and shoes complete the look and add emphasis to the pirate character.
  
  

Headpieces

• There are a number of different headpieces to wear for a woman's pirate costume. Oversized hats decorated with feathers, lace and bows add a feminine touch to the costume --- hats such as these are a cross between a sassy pirate and a southern belle. Classic pirate hats are often seen in black, somewhat round but more of a "U" shape, with the length going across the front of the head. These are often marked with a skull and crossbones image on the front. Head sashes are also popular for women's pirate costumes. The sash is wrapped around the head, tied at the side, with the ends hanging down over the shoulders. Another headpiece is similar to a handkerchief. Attire

• Women's pirate costumes can be feminine, such as a dress, or more masculine, with pants and a larger blouse. A feminine pirate costume is often seen with a corset type of vest that is worn over an off-the-shoulder blouse. This can be paired with a skirt, which often has an abundance of lace or a small petticoat underneath. Jagged edges on the end of the dress gives the costume character. A more masculine pirate costume is characterized by pants or leggings, a large belt or sash and a puffy blouse. This costume is made more feminine by the addition of a corset vest or a blouse that fits closer to the body. Another option is leggings that are topped with a belt worn with a cropped blouse.
  
  

Shoes and Accessories

• Tall, heeled boots that lace up the front are popular to wear with a pirate dress, pants or leggings. Thigh-high hose worn with basic heels are another option to wear with a dress. Fishnet hose are often worn underneath a pirate dress, and tall leather boots complete the look. An eye patch is a classic pirate accessory and emphasizes the character. Fake swords in a sash tied around the waist or held by a belt give a pirate costume a daring look. A small bag of gold coins tied to the belt or waist sash is another idea for an accessory.
