How to Bid for Airplane Tickets
- 1). Decide when you need to fly. The date that you choose will determine the average amount to bid on a flight. Try to be flexible with your flight time and choose to fly in the middle of the week. These flights will be less crowded, increasing your chances of your bid being accepted.
- 2). Before making your bid, compare prices on other travel websites. You need an idea of the price range for the flight you want to take. This will give you parameters on the amount of your bid for a flight. Choose discount travel websites that will give you flight information on several airlines at the same time, such as Orbitz.com and Kayak.com. BidonTravel.com generally recommends that you bid about 20 percent below the lowest fare you find.
- 3). Go to Priceline.com. In the "name your own price" blue section on the website, check the airports you will travel to and from, the departing and returning date and how many passengers. Click the green "bid now" button.
- 4). Fill out passenger information and place your bid. You will be given a choice of airports aside from the airport you selected. Priceline will highlight which airports you will give the best flight deal. Select which airports work best for you. Name your price in the space provided below the airports.
- 5). Provide credit card information. Once you submit your payment information, if a ticket at the price you requested is available, your credit card will automatically be charged. You will be notified if and when your bid is accepted. No information on the airline, the exact time of the flight, or any layovers will provided until your payment as been processed. Expect to fly anytime between 6am and 10pm on the day you selected.
