How to Buy Green Wedding Gifts

    • 1). Provide items that further the new couple's desire to live a green life. Organic cotton bed sheets and towels are good choices and placemats made of hemp or recycled materials are appropriate. Bamboo is a popular textile in organic fabrics and the result is a soft, durable item.

    • 2). Give the gift of health with trial memberships at a local fitness club or his and her bicycles for touring the great outdoors while staying in shape.

    • 3). Purchase a gift subscription to an environmental magazine, such as "The Green Guide," or pay for a year's membership for the newlyweds in the Sierra Club.

    • 4). Slip a gift certificate inside their wedding card, spendable at any number of organic retailers or an online eco-friendly merchant. You can always give money, but a gift certificate is more personal.

    • 5). Plant a tree in honor of the newly married couple. If they don't want gifts, it is a thoughtful gesture on your part that furthers environmentalism. Alternately, donate money to help save a rainforest, support a wildlife fund, or further scientific research into climate change.

    • 6). Adopt an endangered animal, in the new couple's honor, through an animal rights advocacy group, like the "World Wildlife Adoption Center" and provide the couple with the identity of the animal helped. (See Resources.)
