Cupcake Wedding Favors
Edible wedding favors always go done well with guests and cupcakes give you a great chance to provide unique and personalized favors. Here are a few tips for giving cupcakes as favors at your wedding:
Flavor: You could play it safe and go for plain vanilla or tempt them with chocolate! You could choose the same flavor as your wedding cake (unless it's fruit of course) or go for something completely different. A few ideas include:
* Carrot
* Ginger
* Apple
* Lemon
* Choco chip
* Raisin
* Madeira
Icing: This is where the fun begins! Choose from glace icing which gives a shiny finish, butter cream which is quite indulgent, fondant which gives greater options for personalizing or cream cheese. Think about the time of year in which you wedding will take place, butter cream may not fair too well in hot summer heat!
Fondant icing allows for different shapes to cut, miniatures to be created such as flowers, butterflies, hearts etc and you can use different colors to coordinate with your wedding.
Butter cream when piped on adds a high 'peaked' topping which looks great when sprinkled with colored candy or mini hearts. Alternatively you could spread it over the top of the cupcake with a knife and add some fondant shapes on top. Butter cream can also be flavored to match the cake flavor or to coordinate with it.
Decorations: These include sugar craft flowers such as roses, beautiful butterflies and a whole host of other shapes you can use to decorate your cupcakes.
You could cut letters from fondant or if you are confident enough pipe names on them with an icing bag. You can then use your cupcakes as place names.
The sheer wealth of cake decorations available will blow your mind, so my advice is to stick to something simple and make sure it coordinates with your wedding style and /or theme.
Presentation: You have a range of options here to present your cupcakes:
* Buy some stands and use your cupcakes as table centers allowing guests to help themselves.
* Present them in small paper cups to coordinate with your wedding colors.
* Place them in pretty laser cut paper cups which have intricate patterns cut around the top - beware though that these are pricey!
* Place your cupcakes in perfect sized transparent boxes.
* Place them in white card boxes with some ribbon and thank you tag attached.
Visit a catering or bakery wholesaler for some specially made cupcake boxes which have a special insert in them to hold the cake in place and have a transparent top.
