Why Are Cabanas Different From Other Brands of Cigars Produced?
As a cigar the Cohiba is totally hand rolled and uses the tobacco leaves from the Vuelta Abajo regions which are considered the best. This brand is also produced in limited quantities to maintain the exclusivity by the producer Habanos SA. This producer was earlier independent but is now owned by the Cuban government which nationalized the tobacco industry after the Cuban revolution. When talking about cigars the conversation would first with begin the Cohiba, but it is a fact that the oldest cigar available today is Cabanas, which was first registered in 1810.
There is a subtle difference between a Cohiba and Cabanas because even though the tobacco leaves used during the production come from the same region the cigars are rolled in a different manner. Cabanas are totally €mecanizado€ which translates to a machine made. The tobacco leaves used during the production are not considered fit for hand rolling and this will be a factor which will immediately be noticed by cigar aficionados. This in no way means that the quality of the product delivered to a consumer will be inferior. Habanos SA puts in plenty of effort to ensure that every cigar which leaves its facility measures up to the standards they have set for over a century. Consumers will not be disappointed with their choice and can rest assured that they will receive full value for the money spent.
Habanos SA produces Cabanas in just one Vitola but makes them available in different boxes for the benefit of consumers who may not want to purchase one of the larger boxes. There are other producers of this brand in the Dominican Republic who also state that they make the best Cabanas available. They also claim that Cabanas are hand rolled and match the high standards of the brand produced by the Cuban manufacturer. They could also offer prices, which may look lower to a beginner in the world of cigars. However, it must be understood that these producers are not from Cuba and are again not the true representatives of Francisco Cabanos who first introduced this brand way back in 1810.
