How to Troubleshoot a McAfee Update
- 1). Make sure that your computer's Internet connection is operational. McAfee cannot connect to the necessary web servers if your computer itself is not connected to the Internet. Double-check your connections and attempt to download your McAfee updates again.
- 2). Restart McAfee. To do this, right-click on McAfee's system tray icon and click "Close." Enter your computer's "Start" menu and reopen McAfee using its icon. This will clear the program's memory, which allows it to start fresh. You should now have no problems trying to update McAfee.
- 3). Download and install your McAfee updates manually. If you are trying to use McAfee's automated tool to download and install your program updates, try going to McAfee's download site (see Resources) and downloading the files on your own. Download the desired update and double-click the file to install the program. Restart your computer to complete the upgrade, and open McAfee again to see if the software update was successful.
