High blood pressure is a condition that affects millions of Americans every year.
Approximately 27% of all American women are affected by high blood pressure, usually between the ages of 18 and 74, and around 70% of woman who are over the age of 65 have high blood pressure to some extent.

For instance, exercising, eating right and losing weight are all great ways to combat high blood pressure, although even with these changes and taking medications, primary hypertension can never be cured, only managed.
Secondary hypertension can be cured by dealing with the underlying cause of the condition.
Other lifestyle changes include quitting smoking and cutting back on, or eliminating altogether, salt in the diet.
One lifestyle change that is necessary is to adopt a healthy, well-balanced diet that is rich in carbohydrates, proteins and good fats.
One particularly good diet that is recommended by the American Heart Association is the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet, which is loaded with fruits and vegetables, with less meat and fish.
But it is also essential to get enough protein, so the vegetables eaten should be rich in protein.
