    • 1). Use the cab fare calculator at Taxi Fare Finder (see Resources) if you are traveling to an airport in a major U.S. city. If your city is not one of the ones available, you can click on "Give me a typical U.S. cab fare." Otherwise, select your city and enter in your starting point and destination for a quote. Keep in mind that tolls and airport surcharges are not included in the estimate.

    • 2). Visit the World Taximeter website if you need international cab fare information. Enter in your starting point and destination for a calculation. Be sure to look under "Useful information about taxi services in ..." on your results page to see details about any extra surcharges not included in the calculation. For example, the page gives details on surcharges for extra passengers and extra luggage.

    • 3). Contact a taxi company to ask for a quote if you are in a small town or a place not available on any cab fare calculator websites. Be sure to ask for the flat fee initial fare as well as the metered rate. Then you can calculate the mileage for your drive using Google Maps or another map service and come up with your own estimate.
