The US Ambassador in London is known officially as The Ambassador to the Court of St. James's. He is the personal representative of the US President, and oversees the Embassy, as well as Consulates General in Edinburgh (Scotland) and Belfast (Northern Ireland) and a liaison office in Cardiff (Wales).
Representatives from the State Department and 26 other US government agencies manage portfolios concerning economic, commercial and agricultural affairs, consular and immigration issues, customs, transportation, and law enforcement activities, as well as political and military relations, and public affairs.

Please do not take mobile phones or any electronic devices, such as Blackberries, iPods, or PDAs as they are not allowed within the Embassy. You are also strongly advised to not bring large bags, such as backpacks, suitcases or packages. Liquids of any kind either in bottles, cartons or cups will not be allowed in the building.
Visitors who do not follow these instructions will experience considerable delays at the security check point which could result in them being asked to return to the Embassy on another day.
