Testing the Wire

After first being blocked from stringing his rope by local civic leaders, Blondin was finally able to get permission. He carefully constructed a web of guy wires that would steady the rope he was going to walk across.

The rope used by Blondin was made of hemp and was about three inches in diameter. It stretched 1,100 feet across the Niagara River.
