Saving our Planet
The issue with this consumer lifestyle is the fact we're never happy. We continually want much more, even getting into debt to get it. We buy what we want not whatever we need. We replace our possessions not simply after they become damaged and un-usable, but when we've grown bored of them and something that is supposedly better arrives on the high street grabbing our attention. We want alot more, and this is what's damaging the environment. We probably don't pay much attention to it, as we believe this matter will take years to manifest, but this isn't the situation, the result is immediate. There was a big push within the uk a few years ago about recycling what gets thrown out, and asking people to think ‘green', however, not much really is said nowadays, this is a shame. It's a shame as people aren't mindful of the situation of recycling, they presume that everything they dispose of would be recycled, this is definitely not the situation. Whilst it is true, that if you go to a recycling centre, or sort your trash into the appropriate recycle bin, then there's a strong possibility that the item will in fact be recycled, but many household and personal items simply aren't able to be recycled. And what happens to these items is that they're put in land fill dumps, normally in a 3rd world country. Your old TV's along with your old computers are shipped across to some third world country, often India, or one of several African nations, but there are many more out there, and the items are dumped. Now, these products aren't biodegradable, so they won't waste away in the future, they'll stay there permanently, and what often happens is that those who reside in these countries need to make do with these things on their doorstep, some even live among them. It's imperative that you understand exactly what's happening in our world regarding consumerism, and the consequence it's having on this planet in general, as it's a lasting damage that is going to be with the plant long after we're gone, and we're the route cause of the trouble.
