How to Keep a Strong Core with a Desk Job
- 1). Maintain good posture. If bad posture is a habit for you, then maintaining good posture will feel like a workout at first. Use your abs as you sit up straight. Over time, it will become second nature, since the stronger your core is, the easier it will be to have good posture. If it's not too distracting and your boss approves, consider bringing an exercise ball to work with you and use it as your chair, as not only will it work better for posture, but you will also be able to do other simple exercises on it.
- 2). Do exercises that require no equipment. For example, simple breathing exercises work well. Contract your abs as you breathe in, and exhale slowly. Also, during a slow time at work, try sitting on the edge of a chair, contracting your abs while lifting your knees up. Figure out what works best for you, and make it a routine.
- 3). Use the stairs. As you walk, focus on good posture and keep your abs firm. The small exercises you do throughout the day will benefit you over time. Also, walk to lunch instead of driving, using the same methodology. You don't have to break a sweat and bring a change of clothes, but the little things go a long way.
