HTC HD2 Vs. EVO Resolution

    Pixels

    • Although HTC reports screen resolution in terms of pixels, it's also important to consider the screen size. This is because resolution depends on only the number of pixels, but on their density. Here, the comparison is simple because all three phones have a 4.3-inch screen. At 540-by-960 pixels, the Evo 3D's resolution clearly stands out over the 480-by-800 resolution of both the Evo 4G and HD2.

    Screen Type

    • The HD2 and the Evo 4G have identical screens. These are the thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT LCD) screens standard on most touch-screen phones. The Evo 3D uses a 3D LCD display. This allows users to view 3D videos and 3D stills, and play 3D games, without special glasses.

    Colors

    • The more colors a screen supports, the more it can take full advantage of its resolution, making images appear sharper and more realistic. Both the HD2 and the Evo 4G support the same amount of on-screen colors: 65,000. The Evo 3D supports 16 million. This difference is most apparent when watching movies or looking at still images. It is less apparent when navigating the user interface or performing tasks that don't involve many colors such as text messaging or sending email.

    Camera

    • Camera quality is where both Evos win out over the HD2, each in its own way. The HD2 has a 5-megapixel (MP) camera. The Evo 4G has an 8MP camera. This allows it to produce images with a higher concentration of pixel per inch, that is, with higher resolution. The Evo 3D also has a 5MB camera, but it's a dual camera ; that is, it consists of two cameras in one. These create two images for every picture the user takes, then combines them into a single 3D image. In terms of video resolution, the HD2 takes video at 480p, while the Evo 4G shoots at 720p. Compare this to the Evo 3D's 1080p 2D recording and 720p 3D recording capability.
