How to Cite DSM IV
- 1). Use this format for citing the DSM-IV in reference lists: American Psychiatric Association. (1994). Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders (4th ed.). Washington, D.C.: Author.
- 2). Apply a hanging indent of 1.25 cm to each line after the first.
- 3). Set the title of the book in italics.
- 1). When mentioning the DSM--IV I text, spell it out and provide the abbreviation at the first instance: Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition (DSM--IV). After the first instance, you may abbreviate the title to DSM--IV, being sure to use italics.
- 2). When citing the DSM--IV in text, use this construction: (American Psychiatric Association, 1994).
- 3). When referring to the DSM--IV, use an en dash, not a hyphen.
