How to Improve the Communication & Performance of My Team

    • 1). Reduce the volume of communication. Although this may sound counterintuitive, reducing the number of emails between your team will improve communication and performance. Tell your employees that they can only send emails before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m., and everything else will require face-to-face communication. This will reduce unnecessary emails, and employees will only share important information.

    • 2). Mix up your staff, rather than dividing them into different departments. Have accountants sitting next to human resources and so on. This will improve cross-department communication and improve performance and morale within your organization.

    • 3). Hold a feedback session once a week. For example, every Friday afternoon, call all of your employees into a meeting room, and ask them their thoughts on how the week has gone. This will help the staff communicate strengths and weaknesses of the organization, which will help you to iron out problems.

    • 4). Speak to your staff individually once a week. Ask team members how they feel they are performing. Getting to know your team individually will help with both communication and performance, and will help them become comfortable communicating with you.
