When Snooping Goes to Far
One of my favorite things is people watching.
In the mall, in the airport, and even my neighbors are fun to watch.
Don't get me wrong I am not a spy but if people put themselves out there to then I will pay attention.
My husband calls me nosy because I know the happenings in our neighborhood.
Is there a line that is too far? After much thinking this is what I come up with.
At what lengths do you go out of your way to get information? If you spend an enormous amount of time trying to obtain information up to and including invading someone's personal space then you are most likely too far.
Some examples of people watching can clearly identify what lines you should or should not cross.
One important factor is to ask yourself what you would want in the same situation.
Here is some food for thought.
A lady called the radio station not too long ago and said she was at someone's house visiting and asked to use the restroom.
Upon which the person pointed her in the direction and before she got to the door they asked that the person please not go through their cabinets.
It was kind of strange that someone would think to ask that of a guest but they had the right as this was their personal space after all.
The lady calling the station said that when the person asked her not to go through the cabinets it made her more intrigued and she found she could not resist and did so just to see what the fuss was about.
Needless to say the person had set a trap and she was caught.
They asked her to leave and have not spoken to her since.
My neighbors are ones that love to live drama.
They live it in the front yard for everyone to see.
Yelling, screaming, fighting, and more happen in that front yard and it does not take a rocket scientist to know that this is a very dysfunctional household.
My belief is that if they want to lay their life out there for everyone to see then people are going to know about their lives.
I think there is a definite line to not cross, but human nature is to watch the events of lives out in public.
I would not go as far as to rummage through someone's personal belongings, nor would I creep up and spy inside their home.
I am a firm believer that you can get information by just what people put in front of you in public.
Keep this food for thought the next time you are thinking of rummaging through someone's things.
Think about what you would want in the reverse situation.
If your answer is privacy then you know what others expect of you.
