The Water Is Freezing in My GE Ice Maker
- One of the primary reasons why the water might be freezing in the ice maker is the interior temperature is too cold. The icemaker fills with water once the freezer has reached 15 degrees Fahrenheit and makes and dispenses water easily at this temperature point. If the temperature inside the unit is much colder than this, it may be necessary to raise the temperature slightly to thaw the ice maker and restore proper function.
- To increase the temperature inside the freezer, turn the temperature control dial to a warmer setting, one increment at a time. Other GE models include an electronic control panel that can be used to change the temperature setting. Press "Home" and then "Freezer," followed by the up or down arrow buttons to select a new freezer temperature. Press "Enter" to confirm the new temperature and then allow at least 24 hours for the new temperature to be achieved.
- Many GE refrigerators have a "Quick Ice" feature that turns the freezer fan on constantly for 24 hours to increase ice production. If the temperature in the freezer is set too low, this feature may cause the water in the ice maker to freeze. Increase the temperature in the freezer before using the Quick Ice feature. If the water in the ice maker is freezing and the Quick Ice feature is already on, press "Set Features" twice and then "On/Off" twice to turn off the "Quick Ice" feature.
- Another feature on some GE refrigerators is the "Quick Freeze" option, which cools the freezer section rapidly to cool items after a large amount of warm food has been placed inside the freezer or if the door has been left open for a long period of time and the internal temperature has gotten too warm. During the "Quick Freeze" function, temperatures in the freezer can drop down to -3 degrees Fahrenheit and the water in the ice maker might freeze. Press "Home" and then "Options" and "Freezer Options" then "Quick Freeze" and press "Off" to turn it off.
