    Accent wall

    • Horse and Barn Scene

Wall murals, either traditional wallpaper or peel-and-stick, are a great way to set the tone for a horse-themed bedroom. Create an accent wall by placing a horse-related image on the wall where the bed will be placed. You can choose a barn scene, a single horse running, a classic horse jumping fences or a hunting scene. A mural can create a lot of drama in a girl's room and will set the color scheme for the rest of the room. Purchase a horse wall mural online or at your local home remodeling store and adhere it to the wall, following the manufacturer's instructions. If the mural is not floor-to-ceiling, place it so the bottom is just below the top of the mattress, so that the majority of the mural will be visible.

    The Bed

    • Wrought Iron Bedframe

If you are using a highly graphic mural, the bedding should be plain but color-coordinated. For example, if you choose a stable scene as your wall mural, select bedding colors in tones of browns and hay yellows for the bedding, so that the eye can rest from the images on the wall.
The bed frame should be either wrought iron or a heavy rustic wood to mimic the horse shoes and rustic barn features, no matter what mural you use. Having no bed frame is also a workable solution.
If you choose not to use an accent wall mural, select a horse-themed bedding set that includes horses on the sheets and comforter. Use matching patterned pillow cases or coordinate plain pillow cases with the colors of the rest of the bedding set. Horse-themed bedding is available online (see Resources).

    Accessories

    • Horse Saddle Bench

Accessories add layers of interest to the room and a horse-themed room provides plenty of opportunities for interesting art and functional pieces.
Use an old horse saddle as an ottoman or bench by securing it to a smaller ottoman or step stool. Place the saddle on the older ottoman and then secure it by using the flank billet and cinch around the ottoman.
Hang horseshoes over the doorway (open side up for good luck, of course) and around a mirror over a child's desk or dresser. Display horse models and your child's awards on a high shelf. Pick up a table lamp with a horse and rider on its base. If you can't find a suitable novelty lamp, make your own by hot gluing a horse figure onto a plain table lamp's base.
Finally, place a window box on the windowsill and fill it with Kentucky blue grass to bring a little life and fun to the room. Find a window box that will fit your space, fill it with soil and sprinkle Kentucky blue grass seeds (or any grass seed you want) into the soil. Cover lightly with soil and water. Place some plastic wrap over the top and poke holes in it. Soon, you'll have a lush box of grass for your girl's imaginary horses.

    Curtains and Rugs

    • Green Shag Rug

Match your curtains to the colors of your wall mural, or select a hay-colored yellow sheer to provide a warm sunny glow to the room. There are horse-themed curtains available for purchase, but over-matching items can make a theme room look overly done, so allow the focus to be on just one or two horse-themed things and simply coordinate the colors for the rest.
Provide a splash of color on the floor whether you have hardwood floors or wall-to-wall carpeting by adding a fun area rug. Use a long shag in a wheat color to mimic hay, or a brown- or green-toned rug to further pull in those organic colors of earth or grass.
