Video: Oven-Dried Okra as a Snack
Video Transcript
Hi, this is chef Mariko. Today, I'm going to show you how to make oven fried okra for a snack. This is a really, really great recipe and it's also awesome if you have a lot of extra okra on hand because this way you could make a whole bunch of dried okra and then you can have it on hand. It lasts for about 3 months. So to get started you'll want to preheat your oven to 140 degrees. Then you'll want to get some blanched okra. These are regular whole fresh okra that I dipped in boiling water for about 3 minutes. This just partially cooks them a little bit. For my dried okra snack I'm going to cut the ends off and then I'm going to slice them lengthwise into very thin strips. Now I'm going to just put my okra strips on a non-stick baking sheet. Now you want to be careful when cutting these things because they're really slippery. Now I'm going to put the okra in my oven at 140 degree for about 2 to 4 hours. You're going to cook it at this really low temperature so all the moisture has the time to evaporate but then it keeps the okra nice and crisp as well. After about 3 hours my okra is dried and crispy. Ready for snacking. This is chef Mariko showing you how to make dried okra as a snack, enjoy.
