How to Calculate Page File Size

    • 1). Click the "Start" button. Click the "Run" icon in the Start menu. This opens the "Run" window.

    • 2). Type perfmon.msc in the "Open" text box, then click the "OK" button. This opens the "Performance" administrative tool window.

    • 3). Click the + icon in the right-side pane of the Performance window. This opens the "Add Counters" window.

    • 4). Click the radio button next to "Use local computer counters," then select "Process" in the Performance object drop-down list.

    • 5). Click the radio button next to "Select counters from list," then click "Page File Bytes Peak." Click the "Add" button, then click the "OK" button to close the Performance window.

    • 6). Leave the Performance window open to monitor your system during the course of your workday. At the end of the day, note the "Maximum" value for the Page File Bytes Peak counter.

    • 7). Multiply the "Maximum" value for the Page File Bytes Peak counter by 0.7 to calculate the recommended page file size and complete the process.
