My New Year"s Resolutions Project - Have You Made Your New Year Resolutions?
I did something recently that I have never done before, I collected all my dreams on a poster board and enjoyed cutting out letters and pictures to paste on the board.
I embarked on a spiritual, self-fulfilling, and creative exercise.
This was something new for me to bring in the New Year.
Actually, January brings forth two new beginnings for me; a new calendar year and a new year for my birth.
All my life I have wanted to create a collage and I just started cutting out letters and phrases that would make up and represent what I was feeling.
I then purchased my poster boards and paste and began my project.
Creating my collage allowed me to dream the dreams I have had all my life; the legacy I want to leave for my two boys, all the businesses I want to own and the relationships I want to foster with family, love ones and friends.
My collage is my present for my birthday as well as my resolutions for the New Year.
Is there something in life you want to accomplish? Is there something you have always wanted but was too afraid to get it? Have you been procrastinating doing something? It is now the time to take charge of your life and live the life you've always wanted.
I know how it feels to want to accomplish something, to do something I have always wanted to do and to procrastinate or not do it at all.
I have lived a life that I do not recognize any more and wondered, where did all my dreams and aspirations go.
Two weekends ago, all my dreams and thoughts of a better life poured out of me and onto a poster board.
I placed everything that I have every wanted to do and all thoughts from being a mother, a sister, a girlfriend, a friend, to all my dreams of all the businesses I want to have.
I felt as if I was living the life I wanted vicariously through every word and I pasted on the poster board.
I was very proud of myself and at the same time very afraid.
The fear came from knowing that I have not accomplish those things that I set out to do as well as seeing them for the first time all in one place, I felt a little overwhelmed.
I had to step back and take a deep breath.
I then realized that each of my dreams could come true, one at a time.
The poster board that contained all my dreams is now my daily memory of what I want to do; who I want to be and all the things I need to do to get to where I will find complete happiness.
After completing my collage, I decided to frame it and place it in a place where I will be constantly reminded that my dreams can become reality.
That if I take a step each day to work toward building a stronger family, strengthening relationships with family and friends, fostering new relationships, building my business model for each company as well and becoming a better me, in spirit, health, fitness, relationships, love and whatever else defines me, I can really live a life full of all my dreams coming true.
It took ten days to get each collage just the way I wanted it.
Right before my eyes, the project grew from one collage to three.
The first one was for all my collected thoughts, my personal life, my businesses and my spiritual life.
What I realized is that each needed a separate board to expound upon what was in my thoughts.
The first collage I named "Imagine Me".
This one contained all my long life dreams and aspirations.
On this collage, I had phrases like; Unconditionally in love with my two boys, eat healthy, travel for pleasure and succeed in business.
All my ideas for my business ventures I placed on another collage.
On this collage entitled "Network", I collected all the businesses I want to create and it grew and grew and grew.
I was amazed of all the ideas that I had from one time or another and to see my businesses grow to major enterprises.
I projected the revenue each company would make on my business collage.
Each day when I look at this collage, I am reminded of the goals I have to accomplish.
While working on the business one, I had an epiphany to expound on my spirituality and created a collage named "Simplicity".
I was amazed to all the goodness and love I had inside of me regardless of my life experiences.
I was able to forgive easily, love unconditionally, become more patience, and still have a burning desire to be successful.
My spiritual collage brought out so many character traits that were buried deep inside.
I did not worry about the character flaws because I knew that my positive attributes would overpower them.
On this collage, phrases such as know self-worth, spend quality time with family, get wisdom and understanding, enjoy life, write a journal, make a quilt, choose to dance and laugh.
This project was the most fun because I defined who I am and the character traits I have.
I am completely ecstatic as well as realized that the simplicities in life are all the things that we want to accomplish and when we do accomplish them we are completely fulfilled.
I am beginning my journey towards simply following my dreams and becoming the person I know that I should be.
I have lived a life in the shadows of my desires and this project has allowed me to make a break through.
Have you started making your New Year's resolutions? If not, I suggest that you find a quiet time to reminisce on your life and all the desires you have inside of you.
I challenge you to make the New Year your best year to come.
By completing my collages that represent my resolutions, I feel empowered, inspired and encouraged to be the best "me" I can be.
I deserve that and so do you.
