A lot of applause has been given to podcasting as a marketing tool but if you are like me, an ardent believer of the popular saying: "Not all that glitters is gold", then you might want to reconfirm everything you hear about podcasting before delving into it. Granted podcasting offers a lot of benefits but truth be told it is getting more credit than is due to it.

Before you decide to do your own podcast let's get you well acquainted with the pros and cons of it.
Below is a list of the advantages of the Podcasts over other media.

1. Podcast can be conveyed in audio and video format. However, you choose to convey it, it allows for a greater level of reception. The listener is more easily convinced because you are able to impress upon him the emotions attached to your content. Other media forms don't have this credit as they appear detached but with podcast the listener identifies more with you. To him, your content has a name or face attached to it, so he connects more.
2. Audio and video files allow for flexibility. You are not glued to the system but it gives you room to download the materials unto portable devices like ipod and carry around to listen to wherever you go and whenever you choose
3. It also allows you to download and listen to other contents like interviews.
4. Some people hate reading especially when the material is bulky. So for such people, podcasting is the tool of choice as they either listen to the audio or watch the visual file.
5. Also podcast can be used to publish music files, which is impossible with other media

All these gains in podcasting is summarized in three pluses

In podcasting the consumer has the option of choice. He decides what he wants to listen to and goes ahead to download it unto a preferred device.

2. Flexibility
As mentioned earlier, the consumer has the option of deciding on what device he wants to listen to his podcast material. A portable or handy device like ipod could be used
• Also there is the issue of convenience. You can carry the material with you and listen to it whenever you want to

All of the above facts sound very nice, but like I suggested, there are other limiting factor you might want to consider. A few of them could include your marketing strategy and your consumer's disposition to your new method of sale. So I will suggest you do more studies on other articles before you make your decision
