How to Make a Linear Equation of Rubber Bands
- 1). Hold the rubber band to its full extent, lengthwise, without stretching it, and measure its length, with the ruler.
- 2). Stretch the rubber band for a predetermined amount of time. Experiment with time intervals of 2 seconds, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, and 30 seconds, and record the length of the rubber band after each period of stretching.
- 3). Input your time vs. length data into a graphing program, and determine the time intervals for which the graph of the rubber bands is linear. Eliminate all other points from the graph.
- 4). Use your graphing software to fit a best-fit line to the specific data points that fall into a linear pattern. This is the stretching time vs. length equation of your rubber band.
