How to Make a Cowl Silk Scarf
- 1). Choose your silk. Shop on the Internet or visit your local fabric store. Consider weight, season, texture and price. Consider a Dupioni for better draping.
- 2). Cut a 24 by 24-inch square of fabric. Consider practicing in muslin first. Set the iron on the proper setting for silk and press.
- 3). Straight stitch corner to corner using 1/4 inch seam allowance, and clip excess fabric. Consider serging the edges. Press it flat.
- 4). Fold the lower right-hand corner to the upper left-hand corner, pressing the edges together, and lightly press or steam the fold.
- 5). Drape it around your neck and lightly tie or knot the lower left-hand corner to upper right-hand corner.
- 6). Consider finishing the edges by rolling them twice, pressing and straight-stitching corner to corner.
