Bedroom furniture such as beds, desks, chairs, and tables do not exist to serve their function alone. They are also there to add to the design and décor inside the bedroom. When a furniture gets old or worn out, its appearance can affect the overall look of the room. In order to restore it in its original state without having to spend a fortune, it has to be refurnished or painted again.

Before you begin, have the piece of furniture moved from the bedroom and into the work area. The floor of the work area should be covered with newspaper of plastic so as not to damage it. The areas of the furniture piece that needs no refinishing should be covered with plastic as well. If the furniture is somewhat heavy, you can consider working on it inside the room providing you apply the necessary precautions.

You will have to wear a set of hand gloves and a pair of goggles before you start applying the paint stripper. Strip the worn out coat of the furniture using the chemical stripper. Allow it the surface to absorb the chemical before you strip it with your putty knife. When you're sure that the old coating is ready to be removed, use a putty knife to scrape it off carefully, going through every area of the furniture.

After making sure that the old coating has been completely scraped off from the furniture, manually sand the surface using 150-grit sandpaper. Make sure no stain is left by using 220-grit sandpaper this time to finish smooth the surface. If you know how to operate a power sander, you can get better results in smoothing the surface by using one.

Using a soft brush or rug, embellish the furniture with the color of your choice. If you want a darker shade, carry on with the brushing until you get the effect you want. When you're done, polish the surface using polyurethane. Be sure to smooth the furniture between coats. Let the furniture dry in place before putting it back inside.

If the furniture has some metal parts on it, polish them using a metal cleaner. You can even paint them if you want to just to give the piece a fresh look. In case there are some broken parts in the furniture, remove them carefully and replace them with new ones.
