The year was 1962, and I was seven years old at the time. Our family lived in Pomona, California and this is where it took place.
It was later in the day, around three or four o'clock in the afternoon, on a warm summer Saturday. We had nine kids in our family. On this Saturday, mom and dad went grocery shopping, and the older kids -- Darryl, Arnie, Donna, Dottie and Barbara -- were busy listening to the record player.
We younger kids decided to go out into the backyard to play horses.
Christina, age ten, and I were going to be the horses while Patty, age eight, and Ronnie, age six, would be the farmer and his wife. Ronnie and Patty went into the playhouse, and Crissy and I went to the far side of the yard.
While playing, I glanced up into the western sky and noticed a round blue thing flying toward us. I turned to Crissy and asked, "What is that, Crissy? A balloon?" The second I asked her that, the round blue thing was directly over our heads! It couldn't have been higher than 40 or 50 feet above us and was hovering in one spot.
It was really big. About as big as a two-car garage detached from the house. It was a really deep blue color and compleaty round. I didn't hear any noise comming from it, and neither did Crissy. I just can't, to this day, believe what I was standing there looking at. It must have been made from some kind of metal. There were sections around it, like square panels.
