How to Close a Letter to a Friend

    • 1). Acknowledge any recent news that you've learned about your friend in the final paragraph. Address the fact that your friend has gotten a promotion at work, recently gotten engaged or moved to a new city in the body of your letter, then close your letter by recognizing these points again, briefly. Doing this shows that you realize how important the events are to your friend.

    • 2). Use words and phrases that you normally would use if you were talking to your friend on the phone. Unlike with business letters, you don't have to worry about formalities when writing to a friend. If you normally use slang to say goodbye to your friend, such as, "See ya" or "Love you, girl," feel free to end your letter in the same manner. If your friend is a relatively new one, stick with phrases such as 'Sincerely" and "Your friend."

    • 3). Provide your friend with your updated contact information, if he does not already have it or if you've been out of touch for a while. Adding your home address, phone number and email address to the final paragraph of your letter tells your friend that you would like to keep in touch. You can also provide links to any online social media accounts that you have profiles on.

    • 4). Add a postscript to the letter reminding your friend of a past event. If you and your friend were known for your karaoke performances, remind her with a P.S. This little addition to your letter shows your friend that you have really been thinking about her and the good times you've always had.
