The Most Expecting Films at the Cannes Film Festival

Opening up the annual cinema celebration in the French Riviera, the stars of Midnight In Paris just hit the red carpet at their prestigious Cannes Film Festival premiere on Wednesday (May 11). On the festival, I guess the films showed there caught most of our attentions. I'll talk something about the gorgeous films on this great film feast, just keeping going on.

Midnight in Paris
Overview: As the opening film, it tells us the wonderful experience of a family when they are travelling in Paris, which is filmed by Woody Allen. A remarkable number of star actors: Owen Wilson, Rachel Mcadams, Marion Cotillard, even French First Lady Carla Bruli.
Remark: As the opening film not the competition film, we expected less for the film. Woody Allen's films have been kept the same kind of style for decades on end. Does it mean success if the film is showed on Cannes Film festival publicly.

Restless
Overview: In Gus Van Sant‘s latest film, Mia Wasikowska and Henry Hopper started a wonderful journey in the illusory world. Wasikowska acted a girl who suffered fatal illness and Hopper played the part of a rather special boy. They both experienced an unforgettable journey and the two abandoned children started their mysterious love like that.
Remarks: It can be reviewed as the most important film for Gus Van Sant since Milk. His cooperation with Bryce Dallas Howard and Lang Howard is rather expecting. What's more, the theme music wrote by Danny Elfman is very worth waiting.

The Tree of Life
Overview: Terrence Malick's latest work The Tree of Life tells a story about growing-up and family transition. The story happened in the middle-west region of America based on the family's eldest son Jack's life process. His parents taught him totally different living concepts. During his growing up period, he had to make concessions between the two entirely different life points. Brad Pitt, Sean Pan and Jessica Chastain will show up in the film.
Remark: Terrence Malick'sworks are always full of various details and humanity stories. He is a very careful artist. Whatever, no matter how impressive and hot the publicity is, what we need to do is just waiting for it to come.

Wu Xia
Overview: We should pay some special attention to the only one Chinese film of the Cannes International Festival. Wu Xia is a modern Kung Fu film with conspiracy plot, which told us a murder in a small village. Unfortunately, a couple found out the conspiracy and the killer acted by Donnie Yen tried all he can to kill the couple to hide the conspiracy.
Remark: Although the film is only selected as the midnight films, we should pay some attention to it as the sole shortlisted Chinese film. The actress is not decided yet, Gong Li, Vicky Zhao, Tang Wei etc. are all the options. Eventually, it is taken by Tang Wei.

Castor
Overview: Mel Gibson played a CEO of a toy factory but different from the one in Dream High who is demoralized and sullen. Until one day, he got a doll Castor and he made it his friend. What is more, he communicate with his family and friends with the help of the castor.

Melancholia
Overview: This film is a nonlinear narrative psychorrhexis film shot by Lars Von Trier. It is begun with the ruin of the earth, then it came back to the scene before the earth is ruined. The sister played by Kristen Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg individually. One of them is worried about the coming disaster and the other is well at ease. The divergence between the sister became bigger and bigger with the approaching of the disaster.

Remark: Lars Von Trier made the film into a weird visual style one and is full of his personal characteristic. He once said that it's his first tragic film which is not ended with a happing ending. If what he said is true, what will Lords of Dog town and Antichrist do?
