October 2008

Each holiday season for five years running, New Yorkers For Children hosts a big event called Wrap to Rap. NYFC partners up with teens in foster care to wrap holiday gifts for younger children in the foster care system. The catchy title 'Wrap to Rap" is perfect since the goal is to wrap as many gifts as possible while a DJ spins holiday tunes and of course, plays lots of rap.

Not only does the program give the kids gifts, but it teaches them the importance of volunteerism and giving back to their community.

Last year, producer/actor/director Damon Dash was on hand to not only wrap gifts, but also to lend his voice to a couple of rap songs with the kids.

Together with the volunteers, they wrapped over 1200 presents that were given to children entering the foster care system over the holidays. This year's bash will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Empire Hotel Rooftop in NYC from 4:30-7:00 PM.

Legendary designer Roger Vivier has also announced that he will donate 10% of the evening's proceeds to this year's Wrap to Rap event when he hosts an exclusive cocktail party at his Madison Avenue store later this month.
