How to Make a Ribbon Candy Cane Hair Clip
- 1). Cut two pieces of the 1/4-inch-wide ribbon. Cut once piece of the red ribbon and one piece of the white ribbon.
- 2). Hold one short end of each ribbon together and clip the end of the ribbons to the wooden dowel. Coil the two ribbons tightly down the length of the dowel, with the edges of the red and white ribbon just overlapping to expose both colors. Clip the other end of the ribbon to the dowel.
- 3). Lay the candy cane ribbon-covered dowel on a baking sheet and heat in the oven at 275 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 minutes. Cool the ribbon on the dowel.
- 4). Cut a piece of thread to the size you would like the candy cane. Spread the Fabric-Tac on the thread and press the length of the ribbon against the candy cane ribbon on the dowel. The thread will help keep the two pieces of ribbon together. Let the Fabric-Tac dry for about 15 minutes.
- 5). Remove the clips and gently pull the ribbons off the dowel.
- 6). Bend the entire dowel into a "U" shape and spray or paint the fabric stiffener over the section that will become the candy cane. Flip the ribbon over and apply the stiffener to the other side as well. Let the stiffener dry completely.
- 7). Cut the ribbon along one side of the "U". The remaining shape makes the candy cane shape. Spread fray preventing solution on both cut ends.
- 8). Spread fabric glue on the fabric-covered alligator clip and press the ribbon candy cane onto the clip. Lay the ribbon so the thread is face down on the clip.
