How to Change a Throttle Cable

    • 1). Disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle body. Push the throttle valve arm forward as far as it will go to remove tension on the cable.

    • 2). Slide the pin on the end of the cable at the throttle valve arm out of the pin guide.

    • 3). Slide the cable out of the cable guide on the valve arm.

    • 4). Remove the retaining clips that hold the throttle cable in place at the firewall. You may need to wedge a flat head screwdriver underneath the clips to pry them off.

    • 5). Disconnect the throttle cable from the accelerator pedal. Push the pedal down slightly to create slack in the cable if there isn't already enough slack. Slide the retaining pin out of the bracket on the underside of the pedal.

    • 6). Pull the cable out of the vehicle from the engine bay.

    • 7). Install the new cable. Installation is the reverse of removal.
